The Charleston a Go-Go Summer School!

Just because school is (almost) out for summer, it doesn't mean it’s out forever! Once again, it's time to rip up the rule book for the annual Charleston-a-Anything-Goes Summer School. This July and August we're offering four exclusive one-off workshops where you can learn a whole routine, from beginning to end, in one evening. With inspiration from the Twenties right through to the late Sixties, as always the emphasis is on mood-boosting fun and escapism from modern life. Whether you're a regular class go-er, are looking for a one-off chance to dance with us, or have never been to class before, everyone is welcome and you can attend as many or as a few workshops as you like.

TUESDAY 25th July, 7.00 pm - 8.30 pm

Lights, camera, action! It’s time to step into line and indulge your old Hollywood showgirl dreams. In this vintage chorus line workshop we’ll be taking classic Charleston and vintage Jazz steps, and sprinkling them with some Silverscreen magic. By the end of the session we’ll have a fabulous group dance ready for any MGM sound stage - think classic kicklines, Busby Berkeley inspired patterns, and most of all, lots of fun!

TUESDAY 1st AUGUST, 7.00 pm - 8.30 pm

Shimmy and strut your way to feeling fabulous with this sassy burlesque-inspired workshop. We’ll be uncovering the secrets of posing like a pin-up (family photographs will never be the same...), bumping and grinding our way through classic burlesque tunes and exploring the art of the glove peel. For our big reveal, you'll learn SIX different ways to twirl a tassel!! (Don’t worry, clothes will stay on, and tongues will be firmly in cheeks!)

TUESDAY 8th AUGUST, 7.00 pm - 8.30 pm

Dig out your matching hat, gloves and handbag and make like a 1950’s Manhattan housewife for this Marvellous Mrs Maisel inspired workshop. We’ll have a giggle 'getting in shape' the retro way with some 1950’s callisthenics, before starring in our own very own TV special and demonstrating the latest dance craze, viral sensation Pink Shoelaces! We might even get right down to the real ‘Nitty Gritty’ dance, which no doubt inspired Mrs Maisel choreographer Marguerite Derricks.

TUESDAY 15th AUGUST, 7.00 pm - 8.30 pm

It's our annual Elvis spectacular to commemorate the passing of our King, Elvis Presley.  Not only will we be dancing all our favourite Elvis themed tracks from our Sixties a Go-Go classes, this year we'll be donning a (metaphorical) leather jumpsuit, as we get groovy and let ourselves go to an absolute CLASSIC from the Elvis 68 special… Pink tassels at the ready, Shakers!
