Shakin' That Thing into Spring!

Solo Charleston

“Hands on your hips and do the Mess Around,

Break a Leg until you're near the ground,

Now that's the Old Black Bottom Dance!”

This Spring we’re dancing to an absolute classic of the Jazz Age, the Black Bottom! Exuberant, eccentric, comedic and quirky, the Black Bottom even overtook the Charleston in the late 1920's as the most popular social dance craze.

Over the 6 week course you'll learn a full routine bursting with joyful and authentic dance steps of the Jazz Age, super-fun pair work (no contact required!) and group formations. This will take inspiration from both the original 1920s Black Bottom, alongside a much-loved 1950s interpretation (click here to see it.) This is a must-learn routine for 1920s dance fans!

What's more, there will also be the opportunity to perform (or cheer for!) this routine at the end of May, as part of Graves Park's Centenary celebrations.

Sixties a Go-Go!

Who run the world...?

Look out! It's a Sixties a Go-Go girl group takeover! This term is all about female energy, sass and self-respect.

Gladys. Katherine. Georgeanna. Juanita. Wanda. Better known as the Marvelettes, they were one of Motown's most successful acts of the 60's, and one of the very first all girl groups to have a number one hit single.  This term we will be shakin' our thing to one of my favourite Marvelette anthems, 'Too Many Fish in the Sea'.  Upbeat, sassy, and pure Motown, expect girl group grooves and even a sprinkling of jive!

Over the 6 week course we'll also let loose with some of the most joyful Sixties dance crazes, and even a little D.I.S.C.O!  Expect to leave feeling confident and empowered, having smiled your way through some sneaky accidental exercise!
